Boy ordered to remove Sikh jewellery or face exclusion

Kaiden Singh was threatened with exlusion for wearing his Kara. An eight-year-old schoolboy has been threatened with exclusion if he doesn’t remove his Sikh bangle while at school. Kaiden Singh has been told by teachers at Summerhill Primary school in Tipton that he can’t wear his Kara – a bangle worn by Sikhs.

Kaiden recently moved to the area with his family, who say his Kara has never been a problem with schools in the past. His father, Sunnie, 29, says he will fight the ban.

‘I’m nearly 30 and I’ve had mine since I was five and it’s never been a problem and it has never been a problem for my son at school before,’ he said. ‘A teacher can’t force him to take it off so I’ve told him, if they tell you to remove it then you say “no”.’
